KSLL (Kootenay Society for LifeLong Learning) was born on Feb 7, 2005 as the International School of the Kootenays Society.
In 2009 we changed the name and purpose
from: International School of the Kootenays
Purpose: To offer international and intergenerational education that celebrates the human spirit and fosters a lifelong love of learning, as outlined by Dr. Rudolf Steiner (Austrian Philosopher and Visionary 1865-1925)
to: Kootenay Society for LifeLong Learning
and redefined our purpose to: Through fostering lifelong learning we celebrate the universal human spirit by developing and supporting learning experiences that awaken and engage human potential.
Our society engages with the advancement of Peace and Social Justice through the creation and support of not for profit courses, seminars, projects and workshops for high school learners, community members and international guests.

Ongoing and Historical Projects
Since the Societies inception in February 2005 it has initiated the following projects:
The International School of the Kootenays: a BC Ministry of Education certified Independent High School in Nelson, which merged with SelfDesign Learning Community in 2009 and became the high school program for SelfDesign.
PeaceCamps: a series of youth peace camps held at the Tipi Camp on the east shores of Kootenay Lake.
Fair Trade for Peace Market: held each winter holiday season since 2009.
Veggie Bus Project: initially a project with SelfDesign High, the veggie bus project is developing into a portable Art Hive! We are partnering with Nelson Youth Centre, Oxygen Art Centre and Kootenay Art Therapy Institute for this next project.
Youth Lead the World: this project began as a partnership with SelfDesign High, and is now taking its next steps with KSLL and Ubuntu Learning.
