Pre-AGM Field Conference with Duncan Keppie in Nova Scotia

Before this year’s AGM and Conference in Nova Scotia, ASC member Duncan Keppie invites members to join him for a week long exploration of Nova Scotian waterways and landforms.

ARE WATER AND ROCKS ALIVE?
FIELD CONFERENCE: 9-15 May 2026

Our Celtic Hearth, 2367 Ridge Road, Hortonville, Nova Scotia, B4P 2R3.

This Field Conference will centre around two questions:

Are Water and Rocks alive and what is the relationship between them?

This will be addressed through Experiments with Jennifer Greene, Water, Duncan Keppie, Rocks, Margaret Osmond, Eurythmy

Through first-hand observation of water experiments and rocks on field trips, we will use a
Goethean approach to develop an earth consciousness by exploring in a living way, the Nova
Scotian landscape, geology, the intrinsic nature of water. This will be set in the context of
current scientific and social questions around the care and well-being of the earth and how
the Earth cares fo living beings. Instead of observing nature from outside, we will strive to
awaken our consciousness and inner awareness of our own experience when we actively
observe nature by becoming one with nature. Eurythmy will bring fluid movement into our
bodies. Water experiments will involve water flow using a trickle board and the vortex using
a cylinder, observing movement through form and rhythm in water flow, which become the
“language of its fluid nature.” Field Trips will span the Phanerozoic (500 million years ago to
the Present) observing the role of water in the rocks and discovering hidden forces.

The last day will overlap with the Canadian AGM (15-17 th May), which allows attendee
participation in the field trip on Friday afternoon, May 15 th .

Water experiments and Field trip localities are chosen to address the following topics
1. Is water alive; is a river alive, is a lake alive, a sea alive, are rocks alive? Does nature have
rights?
2, How does Earth care for Living Beings and how do we care for the Earth, e.g. the Gaia
process
3. How is water activity is recorded in the rocks, in the river, in the tides, and on the beach
4. What hidden forces are active in the observed rocks, e.g. Radiation, Magnetism, Gravity,
Cosmic
