Bruce Donehower is going to offer a “Creating Together” group on Novalis during the “Festival of Initiative.” On this zoom call, he will give an introduction to Novalis and his work: “Rudolf Steiner placed great emphasis on the poet Novalis, and he emphasized that Novalis would be very important for the anthroposophical movement at the end of the past century and now into our 21st century. In our meetings of the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities, we have spent much time discussing Novalis – but I found it very interesting that we only started to dialogue with Novalis when the COVID crisis hit. Prior to that, we never discussed him. What happened? Well, as Rudolf Steiner remarked, everything starts with a question. At the very beginning of COVID in 2020, a member of our Section group asked the question: “Is there an author or a book that we could read that would bring healing thoughts and creative inspirations during this time of crisis?” To me, the answer was immediately clear: Novalis. That’s when our group began its exploration – and in the time since, this has confirmed my personal experience over several decades that if you turn your attention toward Novalis you will receive more than you expect. It’s with this in mind that I offered to present Novalis at the Festival of Initiative in Manitoba in August.”
Bruce Donehower, Ph.D. (UC Davis), is the Collegium representative to Dornach for the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities of the School for Spiritual Science in North America. He is is a scholar of British and German Romanticism with a special interest in Novalis. He is a poet, novelist, essayist, musician, storyteller, and translator.
We hope you can join us!
