Resignation of Judy King

Resignation of Judy King

Dear Friends/Fellow Members of the Anthroposophical Society in Canada,

I write to let you know that I’m stepping off the Council at Christmas-time (December 2016). The commitment I made to sit on council for seven years came to an end last May (2016) at the AGM in Montreal. Prior to the AGM I let my council colleagues know that I intended to step down, but that if it would be helpful for me to stay for a while after the AGM to ease transition to new council members, I was willing to do so. This was agreed to. It was considered appropriate to re-confirm my position at the AGM for the year 2016-2017. It is now my decision to leave, with a feeling that the newer members of council are ‘settling in’. New commitments are coming towards me which will take me away from Canada from February to April 2017, and it will be harder for me to feel and be connected at that time, in spite of all our technology!

My seven and a half years on council have been very special for me. When I came on, I had a feeling of being parachuted in from the edge! It was rather an unknown for me. I had been a member of the Society for about fifteen years, and a reader/studier of anthroposophy for about twenty years before that. I became a Waldorf teacher. I joined the School of Spiritual Science. I was interested enough in the Society to read all my newsletters, give support with my annual contribution, and go to various conferences, meetings, even an AGM or two, when I was able to. I cared, and care, about my local group, and join in when possible. I still have never been to the Goetheanum; I would like to go there one day.

We work hard on council, and are aware that it doesn’t always show! We are continuing to move in a direction of openness and transparency, and have hope for a future in which we all recognize each other as colleagues: members and council alike, and including those involved in anthroposophical initiatives, (and also in non-anthroposophical initiatives) taking part in a creative work together for humanity. We see this work is already happening.

Personally, being on council has added enormously to my life. I have enjoyed meeting so many people across Canada with whom I have anthroposophy in common. So encouraging! So warm! I was given great helps to explore in my inner work and a perspective which behoves me to be diligent in practice (though I see the necessity of its being a ‘free deed’!!) ‘Being free’ is definitely a work in progress! And how exciting!

It has been for me an honour to serve on council, and I’m very grateful to you all for being there and for your support. I’m also very grateful for the relationships and connections which have arisen from my work on council.

I am pleased to let you know that Micah Edelstein, resident of Halifax, has agreed to ‘take a seat’ on the Council. Your confirmation and support will be sought for his appointment at the AGM next May in Vancouver.

With very best wishes for Advent,

Judith King,

Nova Scotia.

I congratulate Micah for taking on to become a member of the Council of the Anthroposohical Society in Canada. I am very pleased that such a younge member is taking on this commitment. I have known Micah since he was a very younge child and followed his progress in the youth section and other related activities.
All my good wishes and thoughts go to him.
    Much love,
    Antje Ghaznavi
